Introduction to Health and Fitness

Welcome to the area dedicated to issues that apply to the Health and Fitness Industry. You will also find general health and safety guidance in the 'A-Z'.  This information is relevant to all industry groups regardless of activity.

A Health and Fitness Club has its own particular risk profile and in this section you will see a number of our suggested areas of guidance, the majority of which will be relevant to you if you are working in this sector. We hope this is a useful library of information for you.

For several years the insurance market has been offering reducing premiums for most clubs who have a good claims experience. This is a cycle which is coming under pressure now that the return on insurer investments as well as the investments themselves is shrinking.

The important thing for clubs to do now is to develop a comprehensive risk management programme to protect your club, staff, members and guests. This means effectively identifying all potential threats and establishing procedures/policies to mitigate or avoid their potential impacts.  This website provides guidance on this subject but please feel free to contact us if you would like some assistance.

The effective management of health and safety is a key focus in preventing accidents and ill health at work.  The focus of these efforts with Health and Fitness clubs will be on the training and use of specialist equipment and leisure facilities as well as in some cases beauty treatments.

Not only will you have employees to take care of but members of the public who frequent your premises making use of your services as well as contractors and visitors.

As well as the basic key regulations and Statutory requirements, we aim to provide content that is specific to your activities. All areas however should first be identified and risk assessed and hazards identified.  Risk assessment is the first point of call for all good health and safety management.

You will also find useful documentation in your 'Download' area, for:

  • risk assessment,
  • policy,
  • guidance and
  • checklists

All content can be downloaded completed and then uploaded into your 'Document Manager' area creating a Health and Safety Portfolio for safe keeping.

Should you have any specific queries you can always 'Ask the Expert'.
